Explore the Orange River

With exclusive access to 97,000 hectares of untouched wilderness, guests can explore the Orange River along a 25 km stretch that gently winds along the edge of the Sandfontein Reserve. Whether peacefully kayaking, taking a refreshing swim, or enjoying a relaxing fishing experience, Sandfontein’s expert guides will lead guests to the best spots along the majestic river.

Few fishing spots are as serene and inviting as the Orange River, which features prime areas where largemouth yellowfish continue to thrive. Whether guests prefer fishing in the deep pools beneath tall riverside trees or casting a fly rod over bubbling rapids, the chances for a successful catch are excellent.

During kayaking excursions, guests are encouraged to stop and discover the geology and interesting stones washed down the river, while experiencing the stark contrast between the desert and the lush, winding waterway. The area teems with birdlife, baboons, vervet monkeys, fish species, and the occasional Cape Clawless otter.

After a morning of kayaking swimming or fishing, guests can enjoy a riverside picnic for a perfect end to their adventure.
